Applicable to voltages below 1 kV (inclusive). It is not acceptable to connect aluminum conductors because aluminum does not solder to tin under normal circumstances.
No special tools are required for installation - a heater (hair dryer, gas burner) capable of heating the joint to 175°C is sufficient.
